Ratchaburi Province has been indicated to be the major city on the secondary level in
the Fifth National Economic and Social Development planning (1982-1986). According to that
aim, Ratchaburi Province must be ready for development of all aspects including basic
services in order to meet the physical, population and socio-economic growth in the
future. This thesis is concerned to plan the physical development of Ratchaburi
Municipality. Its objective is to study the role and significance of Ratchaburi
Municipality, the condition and the land use problems from the past to date (1987)
including to study the possibilities and the trend of the future urban expansion. It will
be the guideline of the land use in Ratchaburi Municipality Planning which can be
responded to prevent and solve the problems of community and to prepare the area for
supporting the expansion of the next future community. From the study result, it is found
that Ratchaburi Province is the centre of regional public administration, the regional
transportation, manufacturing, trade and services, that situation makes Ratchaburi
Province play and the public health with the important role in the region and directly
associated with and affected the growth and the problems of Ratchaburi Municipality as the
major one and as the regional service centre as well. The area of Ratchaburi Municipality
and the community are divided into two parts by float of Mae Nam Mae Klong. The community
centre is the west of Mae Nam Mae Klong, especially Amarin Road, Kaiphet Road, Woradet
Road and Srisuriyawong Road and tended to expand round in the characteristic of Ribbon
Development along the main roads. The major problem of Ratchaburi Municipality and the
community are the problems of confusedly using the land, of the traffic congestion, of
drainage and flood area and of the street vendors. Analysis of potential area development
by using the various factors to locate the major activities is found that the potential
land use for residential and commercial areas are included together in the west of Mae Nam
Mae Klong and industrial area is in the north of community. The combination pattern of
land use of Ratchaburi Municipality has been recommended for equalization of urban growth
in the future.
