The physical water qualities i.e. temperature, color, turbidity, pH, hardness, total
solid, and electrical conductivity of Loei were studied. Fifteen streamwater samples were
taken every 8 weeks from five watershed classes with three replications during November
1980 to September 1991. The results found that the overall average of temperature, pH and
hardness of all watershed classes were greater than the maximum standard of natural water
quality in Thailand (20-35 0C and 6-8 , 100-500 mg/l) respectively, but greater
in color (25 unit) and electrical conductivity (150-300 micro mphos/cm). The turbidity and
total solid were greater than the maximum standard only within the third and the fourth
watershed class respectively (25-75 JTU and 100-500mg/l).

The physical properties of streamwater of Loei basin were not clearly changed with the
watershed class but they would be changed due to seasons, land use types, human activities
and geological characters. The physical water qualities of the first watershed class were
classified as the best followed by the second, the fifth, the third and the fourth
respectively.
