Organic matter content in stream water and sediment from five different classes of
watershed in 20 sub-basins and main stream of chi River Basin which are in the provinces
of Chaiyaphum, Kohn Kaen, Loei, Udon Thani , Maha Sarakham ,Kalasin, Roi Et, Yasothon and
Ubon Ratchathani was determined to investigate the concentration and correlation of
organic matter content in stream water and sediment. these data were considered in
comparative with watershed classification of Thailand. The study was carried out from
November 1985 through September 1986. The study revealed that the average values of
organic concentrations in stream water and sediment of the first to the fifth watershed
classes were 10.18 mg/l and 2.13%,8.47 mg/l and 1.68%, 45.29 mg/l and 1.56%, 32.20 mg/l
and 0.75%, 11.31 mg/l and 1.06%, 11.60 mg/l and 0.51%, respectively. The stream water
contained less organic matter than the sediment. The quantity of organic matter in
sediment but stream water showed good correlation with the watershed classification.
Factors that could influence the content of organic matter in stream water and sediment
were land use, the quantity and flow rate of water during seasonal change.
